It is common knowledge now that Samsung is working on a 2K resolution display for the upcoming Galaxy S5 flagship. And now, a company official speaking at a press conference has mentioned that the Korean manufacturer is also working on a 5.1 inch 860ppi 4K resolution display panel for future smartphones. With 2K panels being considered overkill at this moment, we wonder how a 4K resolution display will look.
Unfortunately, 4K display smartphones could take some time to launch as it won’t make sense to launch a 2K display and a 4K resolution mobile display within a short span of time. So it’s fair to assume that the 4K display smartphone will be launched next year (maybe as the Galaxy S6).
It will be interesting to see what LG will come up with, as it is the primary rival to Samsung as far as manufacturing mobile displays are concerned. We expect Samsung and LG to launch the next gen flexible OLED panels later this year as well.
What’s your take on using 4K displays on a smartphone?
