HTC One smartphones in Europe are now getting the Android 4.4 update, starting with France. As HTC initially promised, the update has arrived in January and we expect the global rollout to finish by the end of the month. French carrier SFR announced the update rollout earlier today, so it’s only a matter of time until unlocked variants get the update. Since it is a region based rollout, some users might have to wait a few days before getting to experience Android 4.4, but they will be glad to know that the update has finally gone live.
So where does this leave the carrier variants of the HTC One? Well, if the global rollout has begun, it can take anywhere close to a month or even more for carriers to add custom bloatware to the stock ROM and then start rolling out the update. American carriers have had a notorious history with update rollouts and we don’t expect that to change anytime soon.
