HP has been relatively silent in the Android smartphone segment, although it is very active in the tablet segment with the launch of several Android tablets. The company is now reported to be working on a phablet to rival the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Mega and other midrange phablets of that kind. This smartphone will reportedly feature a 5.5 inch display (possibly with a 720p display) and a quad core Snapdragon 400 SoC, but these are mere predictions at this point. This report further claims that the announcement could happen as early as next week.
This move was along expected lines as HP wanted to get back in the smartphone business ever since the abysmal performance of its webOS running Palm handsets. It’s hard to predict if these new phablets will do any good to change the company’s fortunes, but it’s certainly not a bad way to get back into the smartphone industry. More information is awaited regarding the smartphone, so you should take this with a pinch of salt for now.
