CEO of Motorola speaks about launching a $50 smartphone

Motorola is one of the key players in the budget smartphone segment ever since the Moto G was launched. And despite the price being low, Motorola understands pretty well that the smartphone is still not what many would consider cheap or affordable. And in order to break that barrier, the CEO of Motorola has given away the company’s plans to launch an even cheaper smartphone. Speaking to Trusted Reviews, the CEO Dennis Woodside said – “In much of the world $179 is a lot of money so there’s a big market at a price point of less than $179. We’re going to look at that and just delivering on that value promise is super important. I mean why can’t these devices be $50? There’s no reason that can’t happen so we’re going to push that.”

So is he indirectly hinting that the company is working on a $50 smartphone? Maybe we’re reading too much into his statement, but the mention of striving to bring such a smartphone to the market is indicative of the company’s plans for the future. We’re yet to learn as to when Motorola will launch this smartphone, but it will certainly be a major breakthrough for Motorola if they manage to pull this one off.
