Acer has just announced the Liquid Z5 smartphone with a relatively midrange hardware. This is the successor to the Liquid Z3 which broke cover last year. Acer is targeting European markets with the Z5 and regions like the UK, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, France, Ukraine and the Netherlands will get it first. Acer has priced the smartphone at a moderate €169 ($230) which is quite decent for a midrange device.
On the specs front, the Liquid Z5 consists of a 5 inch 480×854 resolution display, a 5MP camera on the back with some Acer specific software trickery to attract shutter bugs, a 0.3MP front camera, a 1.3 GHz dual core MediaTek MT6572 chipset, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, a 2,000 mAh battery and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Acer’s custom UI skin on top. A couple of flip cases and covers will be sold separately at the time of launch as well.
The smartphone will be sold in Grey and White color variants, so there’s not a lot to choose from. It’s not clear if Acer plans to launch the smartphone in other markets of the world or merely limit its reach to the EU. Expect more information to follow during the CES event next week.
