US Cellular Android 4.4 Rollout For Moto X Starts Today

The US Cellular version of the Moto X is getting its Android 4.4 update today. Update version KitKat 4.4 143.44.2.ghost_usc.USC.en.US brings several US Cellular specific features to the device as well as other common features found in other carriers. With this release it means that only the Sprint version of the device doesn’t have Android 4.4 yet however Motorola says they are currently working on it.

Here’s how to get the update on your device.

If you have received a notification message for this update

  • Select “Download”.
  • After the software is downloaded, select “Install now”.
  • After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
  • Your phone is now updated with 139.12.57.ghost_usc.USC.en.US.

If you haven’t received a notification message for this update

  • Select the Settings icon in the apps menu.
  • Select “About phone”.
  • Select “System updates”.
  • Select “Download”. After the software is downloaded, select “Install”.
  • After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
  • Your phone is now updated to 139.12.57.ghost_usc.USC.en.US.

It is highly recommended that you have at least a 50 percent battery charge before proceeding with the update and that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.

This latest update brings several enhancements to the device which includes the following.

  • Android 4.4 KitKat: Comes with a restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, color emoji, improved closed captioning, stronger security, smarter power use, and more tools and capabilities for better app development.
  • Phone Dialer: Improved phone app that is now easier to use
  • Camera – Focus and exposure: Enhanced the “touch to focus” option
  • Gallery – Photo editing: New photo editing options to the Gallery app including new filter effects, draw on your photos, advanced cropping, and adjustments to color, exposure, contrast and more.
  • Hangouts -SMS/MMS support: New version of Google Hangouts is now present.
  • Touchless Control – “Find my phone”:  Just say “OK, Google Now-find my phone” and your Moto X will ring loudly to let you know where it is.
  • NFC – Host card emulation: Enhanced support for NFC Host Card Emulation (HCE)
  • Accessory support: Support for Square credit card reader

The update is being released in batches so you may or may not be receiving the notification yet. Those who have received it may proceed with the download however those who haven’t but can’t wait to get the update may want to try to manually check for the update.
