We received a message in The Droid Guy Mailbag that says, “Since I updated my phone like a couple of weeks ago, the app S Note app has stopped working. When I try to open the app, it opens for like 2 seconds and then the message “Unfortunately, S Note has stopped working”. The only thing I can do is to press Okay and that’s that.”

Problem with the Update and Possible Solutions

It seems that the most likely source of the “Unfortunately S Note Has Stopped Working” error message is the update since we have been getting a lot of complaints recently about the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update.

If this is the case, the only solution for you is to flash your firmware to an earlier version or wait for your carrier to roll out a more stable version of the update.

Other Probable Causes and Solutions

If you think that the issue is not related to the update and it may only be a minor glitch or something caused by unstable apps, you may try out the solutions below:

1. Soft Reset

First, try to restart your phone by holding on to the Power/Lock button until it restarts. You can also try removing its battery and then put it back again prior to rebooting. This will refresh its system and eliminate minor glitches. However, this solution may only serve as a temporary fix.

2. Clear Cache or Reset App Preferences

Clearing the cache of the app will help remove some bugs that have accumulated from continuously running it. Try also to reset your app preferences if you think that it is caused by faulty configuration. Be warned though that the latter will reset all the default actions that you have set for your apps.

3. Force Close or Delete Rouge Apps

Start under Safe Mode and observe if the problem persists. If the problem does not occur under this mode, then there might be a third-party app causing the trouble. Try to locate the problematic app and disable or uninstall it.

4. Factory Reset

When all else fails or you cannot locate the troublesome app causing the mayhem, the quickest solution would be to perform a Factory Reset. Take note that this will wipe your saved data entirely though so be sure to back up first.
