A new report claims that Sony is gearing up to launch a flagship smartphone at the upcoming CES 2014 event next week. The report claims that Sony will launch two devices in total by Q1 2014 codenamed Sirius and Canopus with the latter rumored to break cover at the CES next week. This smartphone will apparently pack a 5.2 inch 1080p display as well as the Snapdragon 800 SoC and possibly a superior grade camera like the Xperia Z1.
The Canopus however will reportedly break cover a month later at the MWC 2014, with a 5 inch 1080p display and the upgraded Snapdragon 805 chipset. The strange part is that this device will reportedly have no cellular data or a SIM card slot, so it could well be a media device and not a full blown smartphone, which strikes as surprising.
There’s not a lot of information available right now besides this, but it’s clear that the company will also possibly announce the Xperia Z1 Mini or the Xperia Z1S at the CES. The company very recently launched the Xperia Z1 f in Japan which is the mini variant of the Xperia Z1 which gave rise to speculation that Sony will soon launch a global variant as well.
