Oppo has announced that it will be launching the Oppo N1 in the U.S. and Europe on December 10th, for $599 and €449, respectively. The N1 is notable for being the first smartphone that will come with CyanogenMod pre-installed, and buyers will be able to choose between the popular custom ROM and Oppo’s “Color” OS when they order the device.

Also notable is the phone’s 13-megapixel camera – the camera is mounted on a swivel that can be rotated by 206 degrees, thereby acting as both the front and rear-facing shooter. The N1′s hardware specs include a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, 5.9-inch 1080p IPS display, 16/32GB of storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC connectivity, and a 3610 mAh battery. The Android version is 4.2 if you go with Oppo’s Color UI, and while it isn’t specifically mentioned, those ordering the CyanogenMod model should get at least Android 4.3 out of the box.

At $599/€499, the N1 isn’t exactly a great deal. The specs aren’t the latest, and unless you’re someone who really must have a phone that officially runs CyanogenMod out of the box (and has great custom development support from the manufacturer), there are better and more popular smartphones you can spend your money on, such as the LG G2 or the Samsung Galaxy S4. Also, the Oppo N1 will likely never be available on carrier contracts, so that’s another thing you’d want to consider before putting your money down for this one.
