A new startup company has been revealed today called OnePlus which is being headed by former Oppo Vice President Peter Lau. While there are lots of startups sprouting over at China, the involvement of Lau in this company signifies that great devices are going to be released in the near future.
For those who don’t know yet, Lau is the person responsible for bringing CyanogenMod to Oppo devices. It is also widely believed that he will be using the custom version of the Android operating system to OnePlus devices. Just this November he met with the CyanogenMod team of Steve Kondik and Koushik Dutta, no commitments were made then since he hadn’t launched his company yet.
Will upcoming OnePlus devices be running on CyanogenMod straight out of the box? This is still the question that needs to be answered. The company might even follow the lead of the Oppo N1 where customers can choose what type of OS is going to be running on their device. One thing is for sure though; the first OnePlus device is going to support CyanogenMod.
The company will not have physical stores but instead go with online shopping so as to keep the cost of their devices down and to cater to an international market.
The company’s website shows the words “Never Settle” on top of various existing smartphone models.
A short description regarding the company reads
“TOO OFTEN WE MAKE COMPROMISES.
TOO OFTEN WE MAKE TRADEOFFS.
TOO OFTEN WE SETTLE.
Sometimes, it’s unavoidable. But not always.
Companies flood the market today with devices of all kinds. Some have the latest hardware, others have great software, and many come cheap. But all ultimately sacrifice something to cut cost and drive profit. Devices are now born from financial metrics and bottom lines rather than uncompromising passion and innovation.
We believe in a world where product comes first, and everything else is secondary. We don’t accept the excuse that you can’t create a perfect phone at a disruptive price. We’re doing this right.
Life’s too short to settle for anything less than excellence. Don’t compromise on the technology you bring into your life. Demand more. Demand better.
Expect to see exciting products coming out of his company as early as next year.
