It has come to notice that the Gallery app on the newly launched Google Play Edition smartphones has been replaced with Google+ Photos. These changes can be seen in the GPE Sony Xperia Z Ultra and the GPE LG G Pad 8.3 tablet. This is Google’s way of making Google+ a standard across all its devices and something which has been in process for quite some time. It’s still not known whether other GPE devices and the Nexus lineup will see the new Photos app, but for the time being the change is limited to the two new Google Play Edition devices.
Even if Google manages to make Google+ Photos a standard across all stock Android devices, we can expect the developer community to rework the old Gallery app and bring them unofficially to devices, so there’s no need for concern just yet.
Google has been in overdrive mode recently by increasing Google+ support with its existing services. First it was YouTube which received a Post on Google+ button and recently we saw changes made to the Play Store as well, so we can expect more changes in the coming days.
