Google has been running the KitKat promotion all over the world which would give away a free 2013 Nexus 7 tablet to winners of its promotional contest. While every other contest winners in the world have received their 2013 Nexus 7, KitKat India seems to have completely mislead the Indian public. According to several contest winners from the country, they were shipped a 2012 Nexus 7 tablet instead of the originally promised “all new Nexus 7 tablet”. This has clearly angered contest winners in the country as they were expecting to receive the new Nexus 7.
However, KitKat India has backed out of any responsibility by claiming that the winners were promised a Nexus 7 tablet in September and the new Nexus 7 was only launched last month in India. But people argue that if this were the case, KitKat could have specified what they were offering and also shown pictures of the 2012 Nexus 7 instead of the new Nexus 7 so as to not mislead the public. It doesn’t seem like Google is at fault here as the responsibility lies solely with KitKat (and perhaps Nestlé). Deprived winners hope that the public outrage created via social media outlets will do enough to convince KitKat India to change its mind and offer them a 2013 Nexus 7 instead, although it seems very unlikely at this point.
