The Google Play Edition HTC One is now getting the Android 4.4.2 update shortly after Nexus devices received the update a couple of days ago. The update is not a whole lot different from Android 4.4.0 or 4.4.1, but it brings some subtle yet noticeable changes. The update also fixes a nagging SMS bug. This update formally removes App Ops as well.
As with any OTA update, this one too is being rolled out in stages but most devices should have it by tomorrow or Monday. Android 4.4.2 was rolled out immediately after Android 4.4.1 started making its way to eligible Nexus devices, so it’s clear that Google spotted some exploit or bug with the update. Some devices directly jumped from Android 4.4.0 to Android 4.4.2, skipping Android 4.4.1 in the process.
Impatient users can manually download the update from Google’s official servers in the link provided below. We can now expect the Google Play Edition Samsung Galaxy S4 to receive the update as well.
