Earlier in the day we reported how the Samsung Galaxy Nexus won’t receive the Android 4.4 update due to featuring relatively older hardware. But to make things slightly less painful for customers, Sprint has now started sending out the Android 4.3 update for its variant of the Galaxy Nexus. This will officially be the last major update for the smartphone as Google is taking it out of its update cycle. The update packs the build number JRO03U.L700GJ04 and will bring some minor upgrades compared to Android 4.2. The update will start rolling out in a couple of weeks from now and will finish in three weeks time. The delay in the rollout of the update was expected as this is a carrier variant of the smartphone which means that updates don’t come directly from Google.
Even though the Android 4.4 update is not available officially for the Galaxy Nexus, this won’t stop the developer community from working on it. We can expect to see Android 4.4 based ROMs for the Galaxy Nexus making their way to the forums in the coming months. Until then, Android 4.3 will have to suffice.
