Samsung Galaxy Gear gets its first working custom ROM

Galaxy Gear

The Samsung Galaxy Gear might not have been a hot favorite among the customers, but it still has quite a few users out there who are struggling to come to terms with its functioning. And to make their lives a little simpler, a developer at the XDA Forums has posted a fully functional custom ROM for the smartwatch, which should solve most of the issues, if not all of them. This ROM was built using the MK7 ROM by XDA user fOmey.

While this ROM doesn’t resolve the hardware limitations the smartwatch has by default, it certainly brings some appreciable changes. Nova Launcher is enabled by default with this ROM and users can even download and install other custom launchers. Another interesting addition with this ROM is Bluetooth Tethering, which allows internet to be shared with the smartwatch for casual browsing.

The ROM doesn’t substantially change anything from the stock Galaxy Gear, but it will surely make things a lot more bearable. Samsung really dropped the ball with its first smartwatch and with high returns rate across major retail outlets, the number of active users is shrinking by the day.
