With BlackBerry testing out the BB OS 10.2.1 internally, there was some buzz going on in the tech sphere that this would bring support for the Google Play Store. And it seems like these reports weren’t too far fetched after all, as an employee with access to a test device has revealed the existence of the Google Play Store on a BlackBerry Z10 smartphone. This is pretty conclusive as there are a total of four images showing the Play Store running on the device. So does this mean BlackBerry users will no longer have to sideload Android apps manually? Well it’s too early to tell but these screenshots do paint a picture.
One of the nagging issues with the BlackBerry 10 platform is its lack of support for apps through BlackBerry’s dedicated app hub. But the introduction of the Android app market would make things much more easier for BlackBerry. With app ecosystem being one of the reasons for BlackBerry’s failure, we can expect this new move to do wonders for the platform. Perhaps people will start looking towards BlackBerry devices a little more positively if any of this materializes.
