Cricket Wireless has just introduced a new midrange budget droid called the ZTE Source. While we’re very familiar with ZTE’s top end flagships, we tend to overlook the budget droids which are being launched increasingly in China and the U.S. of late. Cricket Wireless isn’t a big player among the many American carriers, but still does manage to do alright in the U.S. thanks to its low cost offerings. There have been rumors of the carrier being acquired by AT&T, which could mean more premium smartphones for Cricket Wireless. The ZTE Source will cost $219.99 through Cricket’s online and retail outlets around the country. The carrier is offering monthly plans (voice, texts and data) for as cheap as $45.
The ZTE Source packs a 4.5 inch display, a dual core 1.5 GHz processor, a 5MP camera on the back, 4GB of internal storage with microSD support, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and 4G LTE through Cricket’s network. The smartphone will launch with the Muve Music service out of the box.
