According to a new rumor, Sony and Samsung LSI could be fighting it out for the supply of the camera sensor for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 flagship. The fact that Samsung’s own camera department is involved in a bidding war with another manufacturer speaks volumes about the expertise of Sony in the camera sensor department, which is used in DSLRs and various smartphones including the Galaxy S4. But with Samsung’s recently announced ISOCELL camera sensors, things could get a little tough for Sony.
However, it has been reported that Samsung wanted to go with a 16MP camera sensor for the next Galaxy flagship while the ISOCELL tech is only offered in a 13MP sensor for the time being. But it would be unwise of Samsung to look solely at the megapixel count for its next camera sensor. Getting a camera sensor from its own backyard could prove to be beneficial if the costs could be kept under check. The Galaxy S5 is still quite a distance away from launch, so these are mere speculations as of now. It is rumored that the smartphone will feature a unique eye scanning feature to make the smartphone more secure. Given how every Samsung flagship has one unique feature which makes it stand out from the competition, we are certainly looking forward to seeing this one as well.
