The Samsung Galaxy J has leaked out in Japan with an allegedly stellar specs sheet. The smartphone seems to be headed towards local carrier NTT Docomo which has first dibs on all the new smartphones in Japan, so we won’t be surprised if it remains a carrier exclusive. The smartphone is reported to come with a 5 inch 1080p display and a 20.7MP camera on the back. The camera has gotten us all excited as Samsung has never had a full fledged smartphone with a superior camera sensor.
Last year, we saw HTC launching the J Butterfly smartphone as an exclusive in Japan, so this could well be one such smartphone. But given the market condition, it would make no sense for Samsung to limit a device’s reach to just one country, so the exclusivity could last mostly for a couple of months at most.
The leak also claims that the smartphone comes with a 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, 2GB of RAM, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, 32GB of storage with a microSD card slot, a 2.2MP front camera and a 3,000 mAh battery. It is claimed that the smartphone will be water and dust resistant with a polycarbonate/plastic body. A second leaked brochure reveals that the smartphone will be available in Coral Pink, Satin White and Lapis Blue color variants. We might have a real powerhouse here if these rumors turn out to be true. But the fact that it will remain a Japanese exclusive for a few months is a little worrying.
