Qualcomm is currently dominating the mobile industry with its Snapdragon 800 quad core chip, which will be seen on most upcoming flagships of 2013 including the Nexus 5. But it seems like a successor is on the way already according to a leaked AnTuTu screenshot. While the Snapdragon 800 chip peaks at a clock speed of 2.3 GHz, this new chipset appears to have a clock speed of 2.5 GHz. The chipset is named APQ8084 and is revealed packing the Adreno 420 graphics processing unit. With CES being a great platform for product announcements, we can expect Qualcomm to announce this new chipset this coming January in Vegas.
It goes without saying that a new chipset will certainly be more powerful and battery efficient. And we can expect Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC and the plethora of Chinese manufacturers to launch a smartphone or two running this chipset by the first half of 2014. Bear in mind, these benchmark scores could easily have been forged, so take it with a pinch of salt we have some strong evidence to back it up.
