MediaTek is the go to chip maker for all low end budget phones in China and the surrounding regions. The resurgence of China in the mobile industry has meant that MediaTek has grown in stature over the years thanks largely to the local manufacturers. It is now being reported by market analysts that MediaTek could ship over 200 million application processors by the end of 2013, which is quite a remarkable feat. The company has reportedly shipped over 65 million application processors in Q3 alone, so reaching its goal shouldn’t be a big ask.
The company currently produces power efficient dual core and quad core chipsets at a low cost hence helping OEMs cut down on the final production costs. If 2013 is any indication, the coming year will be even more fruitful for MediaTek as it prepares to bring its home grown eight core chipset to the market to compete with Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa. Manufacturers like LG, Lenovo, Meizu, Xiaomi, Oppo and others have been generally favorable towards MediaTek processors mainly due to its cost to performance ratio. We can expect more manufacturers to join that list as the year progresses.
