Amazon has been rumored to be working on a smartphone of its own, following the success of its Kindle Fire series of tablets. It is now being said that Amazon could be looking to join forces with HTC to bring this smartphone to the market. A report published on The Financial Times states that this smartphone is in its final stages of development, hinting at an imminent launch. A smartphone like this would come with both Amazon and HTC branding, which could do wonders for HTC. Amazon is currently riding on its success in the tablet industry, so it won’t mind HTC doing the bulk of the development and manufacturing. The details of this rumored partnership is yet to be known.
“We have been very focused on building our own brand, but we have also been very open to co-branding and collaborating with carriers and other technology brands” said Ben Ho, Marketing Chief of HTC. But he refrained from giving out the specifics about the partnership. A smartphone made by HTC and Amazon could certainly attract a lot of buyers, especially if Amazon goes through with its low price policy.
