We’ve received emails related to the problem wherein Samsung Galaxy S3’s Settings and Application Manager crash or cause freezes and lags. While not a serious issue, it is very annoying as you would be hindered from managing your apps. When this happens, you can install apps from the Play Store but you can never clear their caches, data or even uninstall them by way of the Application Manager.
Fortunately, the problem can be fixed by some simple procedures you could do using your device. But I want to reiterate that the following procedures are applicable only to minor problems. Those who might be experiencing some inconsistencies between the software and hardware may end up bringing the phone back to its original settings through factory reset. But that’s the last resort. You might want to do the following prior to doing master reset:
- Go to the Home page and hold the Home key for about 2 seconds until the Recent Apps screen shows.
- Now tap on Task Manager.
- Tap RAM tab.
- Tap Clear Memory.
What this procedure does is clear the data cached in the memory so that the phone would be forced to cache fresher set of data. It often solves problems like this given that the issue is with the software specifically in the storing of data the system uses.
It is worth trying this procedure prior to factory reset because it is much easier and safer to do plus it is more logical to solve the problem with it than any other available procedures.
As the title says, Application Manager crashes when launched. It means that the phone either hangs or freezes when the app manager is opened or the screen turns blank after doing the same. This problem does not affect other settings, just the Application Manager.
Reports from owners who turned to forums to find solutions show that they had a lot of apps installed. Therefore, it is logical to think that the device may be having a hard time sorting out apps and their respective data. So, the best course of action is to uninstall some apps. The question is “how” because the application manager does not open in the first place.
- Launch the Play Store.
- Tap Menu.
- Choose My Apps.
- Tap the name of the app you want uninstalled.
- Tap Uninstall button.
If the problem still persists after doing the first two procedures, it’s time you move on to the next, which fixes the problem in a broad way.
Note: Backup all your important data before you reset your phone as they may be deleted during the process.
- From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Back up and reset.
- If desired, tap Automatic restore to clear the check box.
- If desired, tap Back up my data to clear the check box.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Tap Reset device.
- If you have screen lock turned on, enter your PIN or password. Tap Continue.
- Tap Delete all.
