With the race for the first curved display smartphone going on between Samsung and LG, it seems like both companies aren’t willing to give up. After we recently reported about Samsung’s intentions to launch a curved display smartphone next month, it’s LG now which is rumored to launch a smartphone of its own at about the same time. It’s still not confirmed as to what this smartphone would feature apart from the flexible display tech from LG’s labs, but it’s safe to assume that there will be a decent specs sheet to back up the display credentials. The report comes from Korea Herald and there’s no concrete information yet.
The flexible display technology for smartphones is still evolving each day so there’s still some time left before manufacturers perfect the technology. And as rumors in the past have indicated, these new flexible display smartphones will have curved edges, so the users won’t be able to stretch the display panel according to their liking.
It is being said that Samsung will have the advantage in the flexible display race as it will produce a 5.5 inch panel while LG will stick to a 4.5 inch panel. Samsung will also get its manufacturing units streamlined as it will begin rolling out 1.5 million panels every month from 2014, while LG will only be able to produce a meager 35,000 units per month.
