There are numerous eReader devices available in the market today however one manufacturer aims to release a model that’s different from the rest. Dutch electronic gadget maker Gembird plans to unveil their second eReader called the EnerGenie 9.7″ E-ink Android eReader at IFA 2013. The company is positioning this device as an “e-paper printer”.
What makes the EnerGenie 9.7″ special is that it can be plugged to any PC via USB and it will be immediately recognized as a USB printer. It can be used to print any document from the PC straight into the eReader. This makes a consumer save on paper since the document will be electronically printed and be displayed on the device instead.
- Display: 9.7-inch E-Ink, 1600 x 1200 pixels
- CPU: 800 MHz
- RAM: 256 MB
- Storage: 4 GB, expandable to up to 32 GB (microSD)
- OS: Android Gingerbread (2.3.4)
- Battery: 2350 mAh
- Dimensions: 270 x 188 x 11.5 mm
- Weight: 600 g
- Price: rumored to be around EUR 399 and EUR 499
This model which runs on Android Gingerbread has a large display which is great for viewing documents. The specs itself are quite decent and is more than enough to handle its primary purpose which is as an eReader. The 4 GB of internal memory allows a consumer to store hundreds of documents and if this isn’t enough there’s even an option to expand this further using a microSD (up to 32 GB). Consumers will be able to use a stylus on its touchscreen making it easier to add notes, signatures, or doodles on documents
One of the downsides to the EnerGenie 9.7″ is that it is reportedly going to be sold in the market at a retail price of €399 to €499. That’s quite a high price to spend on an eReader whose only special feature is that it can be used as an e-paper printer.
