A flexible display Samsung Galaxy Note 3 could be released sometime in October, according to a new report. The device could be the much-awaited first smartphone with a flexible display.
LG, it would be recalled, was rumored to be preparing a flexible display smartphone. Some had suspected that it would be the LG Vu 3. However, that device had already arrived without a flexible display, which means that Samsung still has the chance to take the first flexible display smartphone title.
G for Games says that the flexible display Samsung Galaxy Note 3 would be produced in limited quantities. The same blog says, however, that consumers should not expect to be able to actually bend the phablet’s flexible display. This is because the other smartphone components like the battery and other internal parts will not be made out of flexible materials.
Sam Mobile notes that the previous report that Samsung would be releasing devices with flexible displays sometime in November could support the flexible display Samsung Galaxy Note 3 rumor. This depends, however, on whether Samsung will be able to get a 100% yield from their factories. It had been reported that 1.5 million of these flexible display panels could be produced. As Sam Mobile points out, 1.5 million is a small number. Thus, it could be in line with the rumor that the new variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will be a limited-edition one.
Last month, Samsung also opened the Create: Flexible Future Business Plan contest which encouraged participants to imagine a product with a flexible display. Samsung is accepting entries for the contest until October 6th.
The flexible display Samsung Galaxy Note 3 rumors arrived at around the same time that speculations regarding a Galaxy Note 3 with an LCD screen surfaced. Said device is expected to be a more affordable variant of the recently-unveiled phablet, and would be aimed at emerging markets. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with an LCD panel is said to be scheduled for release in November.
