Alcatel Quietly Announces Alcatel One Touch EVO 8 HD Tablet

Just yesterday, images three amazing Alcatel smartphones the Alcatel One Touch Idol X, S and Mini were spotted online, not too long after we alleged images of an Alcatel Android smartphone Alcatel One Touch Idol mini and a phablet dubbed Scribe Pro (read about it here).  Today, Alcatel apparently announced a new 8 inch tablet in the same family as the rumored devices – the One Touch family.

Alcatel One Touch Evo 8 HD
Alcatel quietly Announced the Evo 8 HD tablet on September 1. The 8 inch tablet features a dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM, 4GB memory and a 3MP rear camera.

Alcatel One Touch EVO 8 HD – as you can deduce from the name – is an 8 inch tablet with a (barely) HD display and a number of other great specs.  The Android tablet – or mini-tablet market – is currently crowded, with more and more tablets, mini-tablets and phablets entering the market every month.  The EVO 8 HD has very impressive specs and it promises to give users something different – something that no other tablets do – in an attempt to be noticed in the crowded market.

At 8 inches, the Alcatel Evo 8 HD will be taking on some more established tablets in the market including a new refresh of ASUS’ and Google’s Nexus 7, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 and LG’s G Pad.  Alcatel is however putting a lot of effort in accessorizing the tablet by offering a number of accessories for the tablet (and other devices in the family) including stands and cases.

Alcatel’s One Touch EVO 8 HD also come with One Touch Home V100, something Alcatel popularizes as the ultimate home entertainment system.  This is actually a Chromecast-type plug-in that streams videos and other content from the tablet to a HDTV.  It is a great add-on because it can mirror basically anything – from games and images to videos and music.  This is a much better streamer than Chromecast which is designed to mirror Chrome Tabs and Youtube Videos.

Here are the core specs of the Alcatel One Touch Evo 8 HD:

Operating System: Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

Processor: 1.6GHz dual-core Rockchip RK3066 ARM Cortex A9

Display: 8 inch 1024×768 IPS (720p) (~160 ppi pixel density)

Memory: 1 GB RAM, 4 GB main memory (with MicroSD card slot)

Cameras: 3 Megapixels rear, 2 megapixels front

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, HSPA+, LTE (through removable modules)

Alcatel didn’t make a fuss when releasing this mini-tablet, I wonder why.  Based on these specs and features, do you think this French-designed tablet has a chance in the market?
