Alcatel has just announced a new phablet, following up on its tablet and One Touch Idol smartphone announcements. This phablet however is capable of turning some heads as it packs an attractive hardware along with an S-Pen like stylus to complement the large size. The highlight however is the amount of add-on accessories that Alcatel is offering, but let us run you through the hardware of the smartphone first.
The One Touch Hero packs a large 6 inch 1080p IPS display with a dedicated stylus, 2GB of RAM, a 1.5 GHz quad core chip (possibly MediaTek made), 8 or 16GB of internal storage which is expandable through the microSD card slot, a 13MP main camera, a 2MP front camera, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and a 3,400 mAh battery. The 16GB variant of the smartphone comes with dual SIM standby while the 8GB variant can only handle one SIM card.
The smartphone comes with several accessories like the recently announced One Touch Evo 8HD tablet. To begin with, the One Touch Hero comes with a 12Lm Pico projector dock which can project content equivalent to the size of a 70 inch television. Next up is a companion handset accessible via bluetooth to make/receive calls or texts. This is an essential accessory for people wary of large smartphones and very reminiscent of the recently launched HTC Mini+ remote.
Alcatel will also sell a decent E-Ink based cover which mirrors content from the smartphone in the built in E-Ink display, thus conserving battery on the smartphone. There’s also something known as the Magic Flip Cover which is like a standard cover, but with LED notifications. Both these covers connect through the pins on the back of the smartphone.
There’s no word on pricing or availability just yet, but we should learn more about the smartphone during the course of the IFA event later this week.
