Google Releases Major New Update to YouTube App for Android

unnamed

It seems today Google has released YouTube 4.0 for Android. This looks like a big one, as the UI has changed slightly and there’s some new features as well. According to Google, you can open the guide (the left sidebar) from anywhere in the app.

The new version also lets you get video suggestions during playback for new videos, even when video is playing. The video you are watching at that time will go into a small little square and keep playing, this making it a better experience to find new videos without killing the one you’re already watching.

Of course, the new app also has its assortment of bug fixes and speed improvements as well. Playback seems to be faster on this version rather than the old one, which is always nice. The full release notes are:

  • Open the guide from anywhere in the app for quick access to your subscriptions and feeds
  • Video suggestion overlays during playback
  • Bug fixes and stability improvements

The new YouTube update is rolling out now, so check your Play Store. No news yet on when this’ll come to other platforms.
