Google Glass has been a walled off and expensive piece of tech, with Google I/O and #ifihadglass the two opportunities for developers and consumers to buy Google Glass before final release for $1500.
Now Google is offering a new way to get Glass, any “Explorers” can invite friends to buy the glasses, for the same price. Google has still planted its restrictions on the Google Glass and the buyer has to be close to Google Glass support centres in San Francisco, New York, or Los Angeles.
This move could potential bring thousands more users to the Google Glass platform, at Google I/O and the #ifihadglass competition both ran out of units to sell and we believe friends will always want to be part of the next big thing.
The project is still in beta and the Google Glass team is still working and taking in feedback on the product. Some Google executives aren’t sure there will be a full launch, but others believe it is only around a year away, including the Chairman of Google Eric Schmidt.
We still believe for $1500 the Google Glass project is a little too expensive. One of the main problems is now many have backed it in beta for this much, it would be awkward if it was released to the public for $300, like the Moto X and Nexus 4.
