Galaxy S3 Play Store Problem: Error while retrieving information from the server. [RPC:S-5.AEC-01]

s3 play store problem

This problem occurs when you download and install an app or an update from the Play Store. You can access the app store just fine, make searches for apps you want to download and open their pages without any problems. But just when you start downloading, an error message is displayed on the notification bar: “Error while retrieving information from the server. [RPC:S-5.AEC-01]”

However you try, the download just won’t push through and you can’t simply install or update apps. While the problem is not so common, it is widespread across all Android smartphones considering it is more of a Play Store issue than connectivity or hardware. That said, there are currently a lot of troubleshooting procedures available to be used to take a shot at the problem. That’s what I am going to point out here.

Clear Google Services Framework Cache & Data

Since it concerns one of Google’s core services, the Play Store, it is logical to take a shot at Google Services Framework. But we could go only as far as clearing cache and data, nothing more. Here’s how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings from the options.
  3. Scroll to and tap Application Manager.
  4. Swipe to left to choose All tab.
  5. Scroll to and choose Google Services Framework.
  6. Tap Clear Cache button.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
  8. Tap Force Stop button.
  9. Reboot your phone.

Now check if the problem was solved by downloading an app from the Play Store. If the problem persists, continue with the next procedure.

Clear Google Play Store Cache & Data, Re-setup Google Account

Try to go app-specific by going after the Play Store itself. One of the reasons why you don’t want to clear both the cache and data of the app is because some of your settings will be deleted. However, in the case that you can’t actually do something with it, you have no other option but to do it.

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings from the options.
  3. Scroll to and tap Application Manager.
  4. Swipe to left to choose All tab.
  5. Scroll to and choose Google Play Store.
  6. Tap Clear Cache button.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
  8. Tap Force Stop button.
  9. Go back to Settings.
  10. Choose Accounts & Sync.
  11. Choose Google Account.
  12. Remove it.
  13. Reboot your phone.
  14. Go back to Accounts and setup your account.

This time, the Play Store should be working fine. But if all else fail, backup all your data and do a factory reset. Remember, the “Error while retrieving information from the server. [RPC:S-5.AEC-01]” error is a minor problem that could sometimes be solved by a reboot. Exhaust these procedures first before doing a factory reset so you could save yourself from too much trouble in backing up your data.
