Sony reveals Android 4.3 update plans for eligible Xperia devices

Sony is now effectively the first company to come up with a positive word on the Android 4.3 roll out plans for its devices. The company has revealed on its blog that it will be rolling out the update to the Xperia Z and most of its 2013 variants. The good news for a few older Sony devices is that they could jump directly from 4.1 to 4.3, skipping 4.2 entirely. This is something which Samsung is expected to do for the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note II.

Sony’s post read – “We’re also looking at uplifting some of our other devices running 4.1 direct to 4.3 – we’ll share more info / deets / timings when we can“.

It is clear that older Sony devices like the Xperia S and its variants are also be eligible for the Android 4.3 update. The roll out could take a few months to commence as Google made the source code available only yesterday. This revelation has taken us by surprise to be honest, having known Sony’s history with updates.

The following devices are slated to receive the Android 4.3 update in the near future:

  • Xperia Z
  • Xperia ZL
  • Xperia ZR
  • Xperia Z Ultra
  • Xperia Tablet Z
  • Xperia SP
