Sony has announced the arrival of a new remote tracking/anti-theft app for its 2012-2013 line of Xperia smartphones. Known as ‘my Xperia‘, this app will make its way to the eligible smartphones in the coming weeks depending on the location of the users, which implies that this is a gradual worldwide rollout. The app will be installed into the system and doesn’t require a manual download.
As for the functioning of the app, it can basically do everything which a third party anti-theft app does. But since it is coming straight from Sony, it has a nice ring to it. By heading over to myxperia.sonymobile.com, users can track their phone, push commands and even erase data from the internal storage as well as the SD card in case of theft. The app is claimed to be well integrated with the device, which could mean better tracking.
The screenshots published by Sony reveals a very interactive control panel for the users. The Play Store has apps like Android Lost which serves the same purpose, but isn’t as interactive as what we have here. It is yet to be made clear as to how exactly different this Sony app is compared to the competition, besides the native integration.
