This is just one of the many emails we received recently regarding this problem. It seems like Samsung is now trying to match the firmware version of its devices to the version of KIES. It is annoying to some users because they used to connect their phone to their computer to back their data up without having to encounter this problem. Luckily, this is not a serious problem and it can be fixed easily. If you’re one of the owners facing this problem, here are the things you can do to fix it.
Update Your Phone
If this problem occurred out of the blue without apparent reason, it could be that there is an available update for your phone’s firmware, which you need to download and install. At least two of our readers confirmed that after updating their phone, the problem was fixed.
How would you know if the firmware version has the problem and not KIES?
If you haven’t updated your phone yet, it is more likely that it’s the one having the problem and not the KIES. It means that the version of KIES you installed on your PC was new and your phone’s firmware is dated or simply not supported. Therefore, the best thing to do is to check whether there is an update waiting to be installed. To check for updates, do the following:
- Make sure you are connected to the internet.
- From the home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Choose Settings.
- Scroll all the way down and tap About Device.
- Choose Software Updates.
- Tap Update and let the phone scan.
Reinstall Samsung KIES
If you’ve recently updated your phone then the problem occurred, your KIES installation may be dated. If you’ve been connecting your device to your computer without any problem before, then it confirms the theory that the version of KIES on your computer had to be updated. Here’s what you need to do:
- Uninstall the current version of KIES on your computer.
- Download a copy of the program from Samsung’s website.
- Install the new copy.
- Launch the program.
- Connect the phone to your computer.
