Boost Mobile has announced the availability of the Samsung Galaxy Prevail 2. This is an entry-level smartphone that the no-contract wireless carrier is selling for $179.99.
Running on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, the Samsung Galaxy Prevail 2 lets users enjoy today’s most popular version of the Android operating system that comes with features such as resizable widgets and customizable home screens.
It also has a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen display which promises clear, vibrant images. Under the hood, the smartphone runs on a 1.4GHz processor. It has an unspecified storage capacity, but accepts as much as 64GB of extra space through a microSD card. Boost Mobile throws in a free 2GB microSD card into the package.
Adding to the list of specifications is a 5 MP rear-facing camera which supports high-definition video recording and a 1.3 front-facing camera for video calls. The available connectivity options are Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS. The smartphone also supports the nationwide Sprint 3G Network.
The smartphone draws its power from a removable 1,750mAh Lithium Ion battery that has enough juice for 8 hours of voice calls.
Its other features include Google Voice Typing, Text-to-Speech, Visual Voicemail, Audio Recorder, Picture and video sharing, Speakerphone, and easy access to Facebook and Twitter. Boost Mobile also recommends some apps to users, such as NBA Game Time, Pandora, Foursquare, Skout, Fruit Ninja, and Fake-Call Me. This is also an UL Environment-certified smartphone, and is compatible with hearing aid use.
Boost Mobile is offering the Samsung Galaxy Prevail 2 with its $55 Android Monthly Unlimited plan. This plan rewards consumers who pay on time with reduced monthly bills for as much as $15 per month. Consumers are likewise entitled to an unlimited number of calls, text messages, e-mail, and web usage. Services like long distance, call waiting, call forwarding, and voicemail are also covered by this plan. Lastly, it comes with an unlimited 411 directory assistance.
