Nexus 5 with Android 5 Key Lime Pie Based on LG G2 may Come in October

Daum, A Korean tech news site, is reporting that the next version of Nexus dubbed Nexus 5 will be based on LG’s next flagship smartphone G2 hardware and will most likely be coming to the market in Early October with the next version of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie out-of-the-box.

Nexus 5

The Specs

If the new report is true, the successor to the hugely successful Nexus 4, also made by Samsung, will have most hardware specifications of the LG G2 which is rumored to be in the final stages of development and will be coming with 3 GB of RAM, a 13 megapixels rear camera, a 5.2 inch Full HD IPS screen, a 2,700 mAh battery pack and LTE-Advanced support.  If this report is true, we expect the Nexus 5 smartphone, which will be a high end Google phone, to be the first to come with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie shortly after LG releases the G2.  The LG G2 on the other hand is expected to launch with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.  Most of us actually expected that the LG G2 would be coming with Android 4.3 OS which is already running in Google Play version of Samsung Galaxy S4.

How reliable is this report?

The report by Daum is that the nexus 5 smartphone is being developed parallel to the LG G2 and although the two will share most specifications and design, they will be completely different.  This could be true considering that Nexus 4, also made by LG for Google, shared many features with LG’s Optimus G phone and this may be the strategy the two companies are adopting this time.  We cannot say the report was accurate and rely entirely on this information, but it is now becoming clear that LG will be the next make of the Nexus smartphone.

About two months ago, LG denied reports that it was going to make the successor to the Nexus but it quickly issued a statement to ‘clarify’ that statement.  Its PR department said that the company was ‘open to continued collaboration with Google’.  Wall Street Journal also confirmed recently that the ‘K release’ of Android is slated for this fall, which, in a way, corroborates with Daum’s report of Nexus 5 October launch.

More details about Nexus 5 and LG G2 will be surfacing in the coming days but it is now almost imminent that LG will be the manufacturer of the Nexus 5 Smartphone.  You can check out more information we have gathered about the LG G2 including some new leaked photoscamera and displayprocessor and launch date.
