LG has begun sending out invitations to a media event scheduled on August 7th in New York City. The invitation hints not so subtly at the unveiling of the LG Optimus G2 smartphone, because of the Korean phone maker’s emphasis on the G and 2 characters in the kit. In particular, the invitation says: “Great 2 Have You!”
Along with the media invite, LG Mobile HQ has also uploaded a teaser video called “To me, you are perfect. From G…” on Youtube, showing such message on a variety of locations.
Last month, it was already rumored that LG was going to take the wraps off the Optimus G2 on said date, but until now, there had been no confirmation.
The invitation comes one day after the company officially announced that the upcoming smartphone will come with the speedy Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. According to LG, such processor will raise the performance of the device for up to 75 percent better compared to that which the LG Optimus G offers. The company also mentioned that the device will pack Adreno 330 GPU, which provides performance that is two times better than the Adreno 320 GPU. Supposedly, such GPU also delivers better playback and video capture.
Despite these announcements, LG does not give any preview of the device in the invitation. Over the past few months, however, rumors and leaks about the handset have been appearing from various sources.
It is expected that the LG Optimus G2 will feature a 5.2-inch edge-to-edge Full HD display, a 13 MP main camera with an Optical Image Stabilization feature, 2GB of RAM for the international version, 3GB of RAM for the South Korean variant, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean overlaid with LG’s Optimus UI, and 32GB of storage capacity.
It had also been rumored that the volume/zoom controls as well as the power buttons are located below the camera.
Various images allegedly showing the LG Optimus G2 have also been published by famous tipster @evleaks on different occasions.
Meanwhile, some reports suggest that LG will also showcase the Optimus L9 II in the same event. According to the grapevine, the Optimus L9 II will feature Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, a 1.4GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 4.7-inch 720p HD IPS touchscreen display.
