The HTC One Mini has finally been revealed following the months of leaks and speculation. The much-awaited mini edition of the HTC One broke cover in a press event in London, UK.
Confirming some rumors, the HTC One Mini comes with a 4.3-inch display with a 720p resolution and a pixel density of 341 pixels per inch. Under the hood, it is run by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor running at 1.4GHz. There is also an Adreno 305 GPU, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM and 16 GB of internal storage space. Android 4.2.2 is the handset’s operating system, which features HTC Sense 5 and BlinkFeed. It draws its power from a 1800 mAh battery.
The HTC Mini’s main camera is an UltraPixel one, which has an F2.0 aperture, 28 mm lens, BSI sensor with 2.0 μm and a sensor size of 1/3 of an inch. It promises to take in 300 percent more light as compared to other mobile device cameras, thereby ensuring that images captured with the smartphone are crisp, clear, and well-lit. The same camera is also equipped with smart flash, which means that depending on the camera’s distance to the object being photographed, the camera can select from five levels of flash. This rear-facing snapper is capable of 1080p Full HD video recording with HDR Video. The main camera is complemented by a front-facing .6 MP with BSI sensor and support for 720p video recording.
The smartphone also packs a 3.5 mm stereo headphones jack, internal GPS antenna + GLONASS, digital compass location sensor, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyro sensor, and proximity sensor. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX, 42Mbps HSPA+ and 4G LTE.
The HTC One Mini boasts of bringing many of the popular features of the HTC One into a more compact handset. Among the features that the HTC One Mini shares with the flagship smartphone are HTC BlinkFeed, HTC Zoe, and HTC BoomSound.
HTC BlinkFeed collects feeds from the user’s list of favourite sources, including news websites, photos, and social media updates and arranges these in a single screen. BlinkFeed eliminates the need to use various apps or websites just to get relevant information.
HTC Zoe, taken from the word zoetrope, is a feature that allows the user to capture and edit three-second full HD videos, that are actually composed of a continuous series of stills, as well. HTC Zoe has some fancy capabilities like Sequence Shot, Always Smile and Object Removal that enable users to explore the full potential of the feature.
HTC BoomSound offers maximum audio enjoyment whether one is watching a video or playing games. This feature involves the use of dual stereo speakers, each of which comes with its own dedicated amplifier.
Dimensions and design
The HTC One Mini has a unibody design made of aluminum. The smartphone is both slim and lightweight, measuring 132 x 63.2 x 9.25 mm and weighing around 122 grams. The HTC One Mini measures whereas its weight is around 122 grams. It is available in two color options, Glacial Silver and Stealth Black.
Availability and price
The HTC One Mini will hit some markets next month, but will be released internationally in September. HTC has not officially revealed the price for the handset, but CNET estimates that the subsidized price will be around $89 to $129.
