Back in April LG announced that they would be bring out a series of curved OLED HD televisions to the market, they seem to just around the corner from reserving a place in your living room. A translated press release says that the displays that cost $13,500 will start to ship to retailers in a few days. The displays are said to weigh just 17kg with a carbon fibre reinforced plastic frame, there has been a lot of time and money poured into these screens the only question is will the masses adopt the curved screen.
The displays were first shown off at CES this year, the unusual curved screen LG says helps keep all parts of the screen an equal distance from the viewer, just like the huge IMAX screens. Whether or not in a home environment it takes off or not is a totally different question, we all thought that 3D was the next big thing and then it has sort of fizzled off now.
Even though the screen shape maybe alien to most there is one thing that is universal, screen quality. The quality of this display is impeccable OLED displays are the highest quality displays available, and will have to do since there are rumours that 4k television are not far off from hitting the shelves themselves.
