Facebook has sent out invites to reporters for a press event that’s going to be held this coming June 20. The popular social networking giant is expected to launch a new product which will be revealed on the said date. Little is known about what the company will be presenting other than what is written in the invitation that states “A small team has been working on a big idea,” it says. “Join us for coffee and learn about a new product.”
Reporters received the invites not through email but through snail mail.
The upcoming event will be the fourth one to be hosted by the company in a span of six months. This year alone they revealed the Graph Search feature last January, the new News Feed last March, and just lately the Facebook Home Android experience.
The latest feature that Facebook released is the support for hashtags. This makes it easier to find specific topics within the social network. Despite the fact that this is a new feature no press event was held for its release.
Facebook’s Greg Lindley wrote on his blog regarding this new feature “We’ll continue to roll out more features in the coming weeks and months, including trending hashtags and deeper insights, that help people discover more of the world’s conversations.”
Rumors are already spreading across the Internet that the company will most likely be introducing a new RSS service. This will most likely fill up the void that will be left by Google Reader once it shuts down this coming July 1. Facebook has declined to comment on this however some people have spotted mentions of RSS Feed in Facebook’s code. The feeds however cannot be accessed since it is restricted to whitelisted apps.
Whatever it is the social networking giant is going to announce we will be here to cover it. Stay tuned as we bring you the latest information regarding this.
