We knew the latest flagship device from Samsung, the Galaxy S4 was going to break some records and the figures given by a Samsung executive clearly show the same. According to the Samsung executive, the company managed to ship over six million handsets to different carriers worldwide till May 10.
The initial shipping figure of the Smartphone was record breaking. In the first four days after launch, i.e. from April 26 to April 30, the company shipped around 4 million handsets. This is really a massive figure for such a short time period and the figures are bound to increase over time. From May 1 to May 10, the sales were a bit on the slower side and the company managed to sell 2 million handsets during the period making the total units shipped to over 6 million by May 10. Seeing the pace of the sales of the device, the executive adds that S4 sales may hit the 10 million mark by the end of the month.
To give you a perspective, Galaxy SIII (which broke a lot of record back in its days) reached the 3 million sales mark only after 21 days. SII was even slower, managing to reach 3 million only after 55 days post launch.
But when the company says that they sold 6 million handsets, it does not mean they sold 6 million units to end customers. This figure only shows the amount of units shipped to local carriers and stores and the actual number of units sold will be much lower than this figure. As a result, many analysts claim that this figure is not directly comparable to stats provided by other manufacturers like Apple.
So, when Apple says they sold 5 million units in the first weekend of its launch, the company has actually sold 5 million units to end customers. And this figure cannot be directly compared to Samsung’s sales figure.
Well, things are looking good for the South Korean company and with rumors suggesting that the S4 Mini, S4 active and S4 zoom would release sometime later this year, the sales figure of the company is bound to reach new heights.
