Samsung will be holding their 2013 Premiere event in London next month on 20th and among the most anticipated announcements is the unveiling of the smaller version of their flagship smartphone the Galaxy S4 dubbed Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. Samsung has not made any official announcements regarding the coming of the S4 mini, a slightly smaller version of the S4, but proof that the phone will be coming has been confirmed by among others an accidental listing of the phone on Samsung’s website just last week.
Today, credible leaks of the S4 mini’s specs surfaced. The phone will be packing a dual core 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip which is a slight downgrade from the 600 that most versions of the S4 come with. Earlier rumors had hinted that the mini would come with the same chip the S4 comes with but it is now clear this is not the case. To match the dual core processor, the S4 mini will have 1.5 GB of RAM and a choice of 8, 16 or 32 GB of onboard memory and a 4.3 inch screen.
Samsung may have chosen to hold the Premiere event in London because of the huge success of the Samsung Galaxy S3 mini when it was launched last year. Samsung’s Mobile marketing chief confirmed in an interview with Bloomberg Weekly confirmed that the mini version of the S4 would be coming to the US soon after launch as well. At this point, it seems that Samsung is setting a pattern of releasing miniature versions of their flagship smartphones that appeal to users who would like to take advantage of most of the great features and specs of the flagship phones without the burden of carrying around a huge device.
Other core features that the S4 mini will come with include a 2.1 megapixels front and 8 megapixels rear cameras and a 4.3 inch qHD screen with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. What we do not know though is which features from the Galaxy S4 the mini version will be coming with considering that the S4 introduced quite a number of revolutionary smartphone features including Air View, Air Gesture, Samsung Smart Pause, Drama Shot and Samsung WatchON TV remote among others.
Other details of the S4 mini that appeared on a recent official Samsung changelog application update that leaked online reveal the phone to be of the same physical size as the S3 mini but with a slightly larger screen and a narrower bezel, just like the differences between the S3 and the S4 flagship smartphones.
Besides the S4 mini, other handsets that are expected to come later next month during the Samsung Premiere event are the Galaxy S4 Active, a rugged version of the S4 but with less specs but water and dust resistance build and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom whose focus is on the 16 megapixels rear camera with a 10X optical zoom capability.
We will cover any developments and bring you any leaks and rumors as we come across them. Be sure to check back for more details of these Samsung devices.
