Two days back, Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside confirmed their next flagship device, Moto X, all set to release by the end of the year.
Mr. Woodside revealed very little information about the device itself but whatever he said about the phone surely excited a lot of smartphone fans across the globe. According to him, the smartphone would be a unique device which will be aware of its surroundings. The device would use the onboard sensors like the gyroscope, accelerometer etc to analyze it’s surrounding and behave accordingly.
This is what he said about the capability of the device,
“It knows that when I take it out of my pocket I might want to do something, I might want to take a picture so it’s gonna fire up the camera…Imagine when you’re in the car the device will know, whether it’s on or off, that it’s travelling at 60 miles per hour, so it’s gonna act differently. It’s contextually aware of what’s going on around it, it allows you to interact in very different ways than you can today with other devices.”
But what we are wondering is how many hours will the device run with these many sensors on. I mean, c’mon, the battery life of any android device we have seen lately is not that pleasing and now, with these many sensors working continuously, they are sure to take a toll on the smartphone’s battery life.
Although the company says that they have expertise in the field of low power sensor technology, with these many sensors working 24×7, they would need significantly efficient sensors than what we have seen in other smartphones lately.
Hence, as Tom Simonite of the Technology Review states, if the smartphone has to fare well in the market, the company will have to do much more than such efficient sensors. This simply means that the smartphone battery will have to be much bigger than other phones as well as efficient to provide a considerable battery life to the phone. So, we may see the smartphone sport a large battery like that on Motorola Droid Razr Maxx.
Moto X is expected to be the game changing device for the company and hence, we are pretty sure that the company would include the best possible tech into the device.
Stay tuned for more information on Moto X.
