The Samsung Galaxy S4 is now shipping. Quite a number of enthusiasts and ordinary buyers already have their units but we are still learning so much about this new flagship device. For one, you may have read that the S4 can be rooted and it is only a matter of time before we see all kinds of after-market modifications, tools and advancements. It’s been less than a week since the S4 was made available and already there is hope that a modified ROM for the phone from CyanogenMod may be available soon.
Back in March, we heard that CyanogenMod may skip developing custom ROMs but for those of us who have been dying to lay hands on the superphone and know just how much potential the S4 with a custom ROM could have, there may be good news. We hear today that the S4 will ‘certainly’ be getting CyanogenMod 10.1 ‘soon’.
Steve ‘Cyanogen’ Kondik went ahead to demonstrate CyanogenMod 10.1 running on an earlier version of the T-Mo’s Galaxy S4. There is no word as to when the initial nighties and builds will be released to the general public by the S4 CyanogenMod developer team but we can speculate that we may only be getting the ROMs, and rooting info, after the release and availability of Verizon’s S4, which will be soon. At least for now we can sleep assured that the CyanogenMod developer team will not be skipping the S4 altogether as it had been indicated earlier.
CyanogenMod ROMs are the most popular non-stock ROMs for Android phones and there are currently hundreds of different builds for different smartphones. At the moment, we have not heard from any other development teams whether there will be other custom ROMs for the S4 to compete against CyanogenMod’s but I guess it is still early enough for these teams to be working on something, considering the S4 has set the record as the most anticipated smartphone in the history of mobile communications.
The new CyanogenMod 10.1 build is one of the most stable, reliable and popular Android ROM now and it supports the widest range of smartphones. Since we have no definite word on the availability of the S4 CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM but we will let you know as soon as we know it is.
Will the availability of the CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM for the S4 influence your decision to buy or retain the smartphone? Are there any ROMs that you think may be a better match for the S4? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
