The Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra has just been released and priced at $349. It claims to be the “Slimmest Android phone in the World” with its 6.55 mm frame. Judging from the specs it’s not at par with most of the flagship devices out in the market today. It can be classified as a midrange smartphone and is definitely one of the best in this category. It’s main selling point is obviously its thinness yet it is not 6.55mm all over as it has a protruding camera lens which makes the back side uneven.

In terms of build quality this smartphone is extremely light and thin. The back portion has a rubberized finish making it easy to grip. It’s also solidly built even if it’s mostly made out of plastic.

Alcatel has announced that this device comes with an Oleophobic Coating on its display which minimizes fingerprint marks. The AMOLED screen of this device has one of the best contrasts and depths of blacks available in smartphones. When set to the maximum brightness setting you’ll be able to use it comfortable even on the sunniest day.

The camera module takes decent quality photos and comes with several features such as smile detection and face detection. You can snap a photo by clicking on the volume key or through the screen.

Music lovers will have second thoughts on getting this model. Although it comes with excellent music capabilities it does not have a 3.5 mm jack. The company has however included a micro USB to 3.5 mm adaptor which you can use if you want to plug in your high end headphones to this device.

Despite having 16 GB of internal storage only 13.3 GB can be accessed by the user. You also won’t be able to expand this as there is no slot to insert a microSD.

Overall the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra is a great smartphone with decent specs.

  • Slim design, good build quality
  • Good battery

  • Camera performance sub-par
  • No 3.5mm jack
