Virtual Boy emulator on Oculus Rift

If you happen to have an Oculus Rift development kit lying around on your table with nothing much to do, and you happen to be a fan of the awesome Nintendo Virtual Boy, then here is something which will interest you. YouTube user Cymatic Bruce has uploaded a new video on his YouTube channel in which he showcases VBjin-ovr, which is a free Virtual Boy emulator for the Oculus Rift. As you can see from the video below, you get the good old black and red screen.

The Oculus Rift functions as a head mounted display here with no use of the device’s belts and the head tracking additions that it comes with. The video showcases the ability of the free emulator and the Oculus Rift to play the first person survival horror game title, Insane Mouse Mansion. If you are interested, you can have a look at the project over here.

  1. Hi folks!

Thanks for posting my vid, Droid Guy! As many people have already stated, I have some erroneous information in this video regarding the title of the game and the Virtual Boy itself. Although the rom was named “Insane Mouse Mansion”, the actual translation is Innsmouth mansion (from the Lovecraftian location).

Also, the Virtual boy had no sensors that detected the player leaving – the automatic pause was a timer based feature that reminded the player to take a break.

Sorry about the bad info – this was just a quick fun video that I did not to the proper research on. Apologies!
