LG’s next flagship model and the successor to the popular LG Optimus G is already in the works and is expected to hit the UK market in the third quarter of this year. The model which is called the LG Optimus G2 was first teased at the MWC press event. LG’s Head of Mobile Marketing, Won Kim, said that “the LG Optimus G2 is coming in Q3, yes.” He also added that “G2 is going to be something different, something unique and we have needed to be very creative.”
The release of the LG Optimus G2 in the third quarter of this year places it in the same timeframe as that of the Optimus G when it was released last year. This model is said to rival the features of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and even upcoming flagship models.
While we still don’t have any confirmed specifications for this device we’ve gathered together some of its rumored specs and features.
- Android 4.2.2
- 5 inch 1080p display
- 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800
- 2GB of RAM
- 13 megapixel rear camera
- 2MP front camera

When asked about the features of the G2 Kim said that “We don’t want to hide everything but similarly we don’t want to promote everything about the G2 in advance.”
LG said that the UK is a major battleground for smartphone manufacturers and the release of their upcoming flagship model in the region will make it compete directly with the S4 and iPhone 5. This model is expected to let the company regain their footing in the UK market.
While the company has already announced that this model will be making its way in the UK the actual name of the device might not be the G2. They announced that branding for the device is still under discussion. A spokesperson for the company said that “We have a naming strategy, we haven’t made a final decision on naming.”
