Firefox OS Phones Hit The Market, Sells Out In Hours

Firefox OS is the latest mobile operating system to hit the market that’s about to compete with the known heavyweights such as Android and iOS. As early as now it looks like a very promising platform as two developer smartphones that went on sale early Tuesday immediately sold out.

Spanish based manufacturer Geeksphone has announced that two of their developer preview handsets which are designed for app developers immediately sold out hours after it hit the market. The company says that the demand is very high for these devices and promised those that weren’t able to purchase the initial batch that they will be restocking in a few hours.

According to Stormy Peters, Mozilla’s director of websites and developer engagement, “The Firefox OS Developer Preview Geeksphone devices have development versions of Firefox OS and are unlocked so that developers can use them wherever they are in the world and they are updated regularly with the latest Firefox OS build.”

Both devices which can be ordered online through the Geeksphone website is no longer available. People who will visit the online store will be greeted with this message “Due to the great demand of our phones at shop.geeksphone.com, the shop is currently out of stock. The online sale will restart in the following hours. Thanks a lot and sorry for the inconveniences. rnrnGeeksphone Team”

The developer smartphones that sold out are the Keon and the Peak. The Keon sells for $119 and is described as “light and versatile but also powerful”. The Peak is the older sibling which sells for $194 and is described as a “powerful” device.
