Office Jet Pro X551dw Review: Is It Worth Your Cash?

x551dw

Initially, you might not want to purchase an inkjet printer whose only real benefit is that it spews 500 color sheets in seven minutes and 18 seconds. But then again, this Office Jet Pro X551dw review might just make you change your mind about shelling out money for this $570 office printer.

The HP Officejet Pro X551dw doesn’t do most of the things that printers do nowadays like scan, photocopy and fax. It’s not an all-in-one printer. HP tried and, I think, successfully created the fastest printer in the world. That’s according to the Guinness Book of World Records, which confirmed that not only can this printer dish out 500 color sheets per seven minutes and 18 seconds, it can also print 10 sheets per minute of photo-heavy flyers. As for text printing, the X551dw can deliver 70 pages per minute.

Who is it for and what it does?

If you have a fax and photocopy machine, as well as a scanner, then the X551dw is the only companion lacking in your office. But you have to be sure you want something as bulky as this desktop printer. Remember, at 15×20.3×15.7 (HWD), this printer’s isn’t exactly the kind of thing you can transfer from one place to another (although HP solved that problem via the X551dw’s wireless network and cloud capacity).

This printer is perfect for people with small to medium businesses rather than those who are using their homes as office space. Its bulky frame can consume more than half of a regular work desk, so you may want to think twice about buying this if you have a cramped office space. However, when it comes to features, the X551dw truly delivers.

The printer can connect to a network either wireless or wired since it has an Ethernet port. This means you can easily send documents for printing even though you are in another room. The only thing you need to do is to make sure you are connected to the same network. The other thing is, the X551dw can also print documents received via Cloud (Apple’s AirPrint or HP’s own mobile print app). It also supports Wireless Direct if you want to print from smartphones and tablets that are not part of the network.

The X551dw also has a USB port, so it can print directly from the drive. The files supported are a bit limited though. You can only print JPEG and PDF files. You may still want to go through the computer if you want to print a different file type.

When it comes to output, there is not much to say. One will neither gush about it nor be thoroughly critical. The truth is, this inkjet printer handles printing like a laserjet although its black-and-white outputs are poor.

In a nutshell, the X551dw is an affordable, user-friendly and fast-producing printer. But before buying this printer based on this Office Jet Pro review alone, you would have to ask yourself if an ultra-fast and single-functioning printer is the one you need? If the answer is yes, then this product is your best bet.
