Kids of the 90’s will be familiar with Tamagotchi, which was a popular fad then. This keychain sized toy was created in Japan and is a virtual handheld digital pet. The owner’s task is to make sure to raise the pet from an egg into an adult. It is quite addictive as you’ll have to stay alert 24/7 to care for your pet.
Bandai and Sync Beatz Entertainment is bringing back this popular 90’s icon to life with the introduction of an Android app called Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. The app mimics the Tamagotchi toy which was popular then and places it inside you device.
Just like the 90’s toy you will be able to raise a pet of your own. Your virtual pet will need caring for and you will have to perform various tasks such as feeding it, grooming it and playing with it. If you neglect your pet then it dies.
According to Shin Ueno, chief marketing officer at Sync Beatz, “The idea was to base the gameplay on the original Tamagotchi that everyone knows and loves. As we move along, every two months, we’ll refresh the app, and it will evolve.”
There are two modes to choose from. There’s the old school original mode where everything is copied from the original game down to the three buttons on the shell. The new mode, or the app mode, makes use of the touch screen and allows you to play rock, paper, and scissors with your pet.
This isn’t the first Tamagotchi game to hit the Android platform as several clones have already been released previously. This is however the first app to be officially supported by Bandai.
There are two version of the app available for you to choose from. The free version is ad-supported. If you want the version without ads then you will have to shell out $0.99.
Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. requires a device running on at least Android 2.3 and a storage space of 15 MB.
